If you walk down Dumdum Road near number 158, you’ll find Saloniki. It’s been sitting here for quite a while now. The street is always moving with people and buses, but once you step inside, it’s just a normal hair shop. I’ve been cutting hair here for years. The walls have a few old pictures on them and the chairs are the old-fashioned kind that are actually quite comfortable for a long sit. We handle all sorts of people, from young kids who don't want to sit still to the older gentlemen who have been coming here since they were young men themselves. It’s a local place through and through. We don't have a big sign or anything fancy, just the name on the front of the shop. I usually start my day by cleaning the combs and getting the towels ready for the first customer. It’s a routine that I really like. Dumdum Road is a busy place, so we get a lot of walk-ins who are just passing by on their way to the station or the market. We don't do anything too fancy, just the usual cuts and trims that people need to look decent for their jobs. It’s a small space, so you might have to wait a bit if there are three or four people already there. But we have some old magazines you can look at. It’s just a simple, honest shop.
