Saheli Handicrafts is run right from 37 Jadu Nath Ukil Road. It is more of a workspace than a fancy showroom. We have stacks of different materials and finished goods all over the place. The street outside can get a bit narrow, but we’ve been at this address for a long time. Our days are mostly spent cutting, sewing, or assembling things by hand. It is the kind of work that takes a lot of patience and good eyesight. We don't have a big factory or machines doing the work for us; it’s mostly just hands and simple tools. People who know about us usually just come straight to Jadu Nath Ukil Road to see what we’ve been making lately. The floors are often covered in small scraps of fabric or thread, no matter how much we sweep. It’s a lived-in space where we put a lot of hours into every single piece. We don't have a big staff, just a few local people who know how to make these traditional items properly. It gets quite warm in the middle of the day, so we keep the windows open, and you can hear the sounds of the neighborhood coming inside. We don't do much advertising because we are usually too busy finishing orders to think about it. We just keep our heads down and keep making things the way we were taught years ago. It’s a slow process, but we like doing things by hand here.
