Sitaram Ghosh Street is always a mess of people and carts. Our place is at No. 56/ 1- B, and if you aren’t looking closely, you might walk right past the door. It’s a narrow building. Inside, Nalini Exporter is mostly stacks of cardboard boxes and tape dispensers. We spend a lot of time packing things up and checking lists. The fans hum all day but it still gets sticky in the summer. We’ve got a small desk near the front where the phone sits. It rings a lot. Most of our day is just moving items from one side of the room to the other. There is a tea seller right outside who makes a lot of noise every morning. Sometimes the delivery trucks can’t even get down the street because it’s so thin. We have to carry things out to the main road sometimes. It is hard work and our hands get dry from all the paper and boxes. We don’t have any fancy signs or big displays. It is just a workspace where we get the orders ready to go out. The floor is concrete and has a few cracks near the entrance. We try to keep things organized but when a big shipment comes in, it’s chaos for a few hours. That is just how it goes here on Sitaram Ghosh Street. We just keep our heads down and do the work every day until it's time to go home.
