Saheb Saloon

Saheb Saloon is our place over on S K Dev Road in the Sree Bhumi area. If you live in this part of Kolkata, near the 700048 area, you probably know the street well. It is a neighborhood where people still talk to each other across the road. Our saloon is right in the middle of it all. We have been here for a good number of years. Inside, it looks like most of the older shops in Kolkata. We have the heavy chairs, the jars of combs in blue liquid, and the sound of the ceiling fan spinning overhead. It’s a man’s space, mostly. We do haircuts and shaves all day long. During the Durga Puja time, Sree Bhumi gets incredibly crowded because of the big decorations nearby, but the rest of the year it is just a normal, quiet street. I’ve seen children come in for their first haircut and then grow up to bring their own kids here. That is just how it goes with a local shop. We don’t have a website or anything like that. People know we are here because of the sign outside and the fact that we’ve always been here. It’s a simple business. We keep the floor swept and the razors clean. It’s just Saheb Saloon, a small part of S K Dev Road for whoever needs a trim.
