Rony Art Saloon

Rony Art Saloon is my small place in Ultadanga, specifically on Harish Neogy Road. It is tucked away in the 700067 zip code area. I called it an art saloon because I think there is a bit of skill involved in getting a haircut right, though it’s mostly just hard work. The shop is quite narrow, so we have to be careful when moving around the chairs. There is a big mirror on one side that makes the room look a bit bigger than it actually is. Outside on Harish Neogy Road, there are always people walking by and bikes zooming past. It can get pretty noisy, but once you are in the chair, it’s a bit calmer. I’ve got my tools laid out on the counter, and I try to keep them as clean as I can. We don't have any of those expensive machines, just the usual scissors, combs, and a couple of electric trimmers that have seen a lot of use. People from the local blocks come in when they need a trim. Sometimes we talk about football or what’s happening in the city. It’s a very local vibe. I don't have a big staff, usually just me and maybe one other person if it’s the weekend. We stay open late because that’s when most people have the time to stop by. It’s just a simple, honest way to make a living in this part of Kolkata.
