Rajani'S Boutique

You can find Rajani'S Boutique over at 9 Lake Avenue. We are up on the 3rd Floor, so you have to walk up the stairs. It's in the Mudiali area, right near Rajendranath Vidhya Bhavan School. You can hear the school bell ringing and the kids playing when it's recess time. Being in Kalighat, it's a very traditional and busy part of the city. We chose the third floor because it's a bit away from the dust of the street. It’s a bit of a climb, but once you get here, it’s a nice open space with plenty of light for sewing. We spend our days surrounded by piles of fabric and thread. Sometimes we get distracted looking out the window at the people on Lake Avenue below. We aren't a big corporate shop with a lot of employees. It’s just us here, making things and talking to the customers who make the trip upstairs. Most people come because they know someone who came here before. We’ve been near the school for quite some time now, so we are a familiar face in the building. It’s a bit cramped when we have a lot of orders, but we manage. We don't have any fancy displays, just our work. It is a humble place and we are happy with it. We just keep things moving and hope the monsoon doesn't make the stairs too slippery.
