Raj Gharana Sarees

Raj Gharana Sarees is at 37 Armenian Street in West Bengal. This is an old part of the city, and the building we are in has been around for a long time. The stairs are a bit narrow and the ceilings are high. Inside, we have stacks and stacks of sarees reaching almost to the top of the walls. It is not like those modern shops with bright lights and glass counters. Here, we sit on the floor or on low stools to show the cloth. Armenian Street is a historic place, and you can feel that when you walk down the lane. There is always a lot of movement outside, people carrying bundles and carts moving slowly. We spend our time checking the weave of the fabric and making sure everything is folded correctly. It takes a lot of time to keep things organized because there is so much stock. We do not use any big advertisements. People mostly find us by word of mouth or because they have been coming here for years. The light inside is a bit dim, but it helps keep the place cool during the hot summers. We have a small corner for drinking water and a place to put our bags. It is a quiet kind of work, even with the city noise right outside the windows. We like being in this old part of town.
