Queens Creation

Sudder Street is always alive with activity and our place in P. S. Arcade is right in the middle of all that energy. Being on the first floor is nice because we don't have to climb too many stairs, but we still get a good view of the street below. The arcade is an older building and it has its quirks, like the occasional leaky pipe or a light that flickers, but it's where we do our work. Inside our unit, number 11, it’s mostly just shelves full of cloth and the sound of machines running. We do a lot of the cutting and sewing ourselves. It is a lot of repetitive work, but we’ve gotten pretty fast at it over the years. The afternoon sun hits the front window quite hard, so it gets warm in here, but we just turn on the fans and keep going. We don't really do much in the way of promotion. People usually hear about us through word of mouth or they just see our sign when they're walking through Sudder Street. It’s a bit messy with threads on the floor and piles of fabric everywhere, but that’s just how a working shop looks. We spend most of our time just focusing on the next task and making sure we have enough supplies for the week. It’s a busy, honest way to make a living in the city. We just pack up when the job is done and come back to do it again tomorrow. That's all.
