About Prasad Overseas – Agriculture & Farming in Kolkata
Started here at Sharoff Bazar on Bs Road quite a few years back. It’s a busy spot, number 11/7-9 specifically. Most days at Prasad Overseas are just us handling the paperwork and making sure the crates go where they’re supposed to. The traffic out on Bs Road can get pretty loud during the afternoon, but we’re used to it by now. We aren't a big fancy operation with hundreds of people. It’s just a handful of us making sure things move. My father started this because he knew the trading business inside and out. We deal with overseas stuff, obviously, but it’s mostly just making sure the logistics don’t fall apart. Sometimes the rain makes the bazar street a mess, which slows down the trucks, but that’s just life here. We spend a lot of time on the phone or checking lists. If you walk past, you'll see us just sitting behind the old wooden desks. It's not glamorous work. Sometimes the tea guy comes by around four and that's usually the highlight of the day. We’ve stayed in this same spot for ages because everyone knows where we are. It’s easier that way. People come in, ask for prices, we look through the ledgers. No fancy computers everywhere, just the basics. We just want to get the day done and get home to our families like everyone else in the bazar. It’s been this way for a long time.
