You can usually smell the oil mill from the street, which is just part of being in this neighborhood. The shop is a simple place where men from around here come to get their hair cut or a quick shave. It is not a big place, but it works for what we need. Kolkata is always noisy with horns and people talking, and Manujendra Dutta Road is no different. We open up the shutters every morning and start the day. There is a small bench for people to wait on, and usually, there is a newspaper lying around. Most of our regulars live nearby and have been coming here for a long time. They just drop in when they have some free time. We don't really have a set routine other than just being here when the door is open. The mirrors are old but they show everything just fine. Sometimes it gets hot inside when the fans are running, but nobody seems to mind much. We just keep the scissors moving and talk about whatever is happening in the city. It is a local spot where things don't change very fast, and that seems to suit everyone who visits us regularly.
