North New Handsome

North New Handsome is located at 237 Chittaranjan Avenue, right where it meets Vivekananda Road. This is a very old part of Kolkata, and the building we are in shows its age. The address is 700006, and you can feel the history of the city just walking down the pavement outside. Our shop has high ceilings, which is nice when it’s humid. We have large mirrors that stretch across the wall, reflecting the busy traffic on CR Avenue. It’s never quiet here. You can hear the trams clanging and the horns of the yellow taxis all day long. We have a few old leather chairs that are quite comfortable, even if the padding is a bit thin in places. People from all over the North Kolkata area stop by because we are right on a major crossing. It’s a mix of old men who have been coming here for forty years and younger guys who just need a quick fix. We don’t use any of those fancy chemicals or expensive sprays. Just water, some soap, and a sharp blade. The floor is old mosaic tile, a bit worn down from all the feet walking over it. We open early and stay open late because Vivekananda Road never really sleeps. It’s a lot of standing on my feet, but that’s the job. We are just a local fixture in a very busy part of town. Sometimes the tea seller stops by with hot glasses of chai.
