New Relax Saloon

New Relax Saloon sits on the ground floor along Jessore Road in Dum Dum. We’re quite close to the Babutala Shiv Mander. You can usually hear the bells from the temple in the mornings if you’re sitting in one of our chairs. Being on Jessore Road means there is a lot of dust and noise from the trucks and buses, but we keep the glass door shut most of the time to keep it out. The 700028 area is always moving. Inside our shop, we try to keep things a bit more quiet. We have the usual barber shop smell of talcum powder and shaving cream. It’s a familiar scent for most men. We called it "New Relax" many years ago, but it’s been here long enough that it isn't really new anymore. The name just stayed the same. We have a few mirrors and some wooden cupboards for our tools. We sharpen our scissors every few days. Most people come in for a quick cut and a shave. We don't do anything fancy with hair colors or special treatments. Just the basics. Sometimes we have a queue, especially on Sunday mornings when everyone wants to look sharp for the week. We have a small wooden stool for the kids to sit on so they can reach the height of the mirror. It’s a local shop for local people. We know the shopkeepers nearby and we all look out for each other. That’s just life in Dum Dum.
