Pum Posh

Our little shop, Pum Posh, is tucked away in the New Market New Complex at Ng-125. New Market is always a whirlwind of people and noise. It’s a huge complex and it can be easy to get lost if you don't know your way around. Our unit is small, just enough space for the racks and a tiny counter. We spend most of our day standing up and talking to people who pass by. It gets really loud in the afternoons when the crowds peak. We don't have any fancy air conditioning, just a small table fan that hums all day. The walls are painted a simple white, but they're mostly covered up by the products anyway. We get new stock every week, so the look of the shop changes quite a bit. It’s a bit of a struggle to keep everything tidy when it’s so busy. We don’t have a big team, just a couple of us who take turns being at the shop. We eat our lunch behind the counter while trying to watch the door. It’s not a glamorous job, but we enjoy the energy of the market. Sometimes we talk to the neighboring shopkeepers more than our own families. We’ve been in this complex since it was relatively new. We don't do much in the way of promotion. People just wander in while they're doing their shopping and see what we have. It's just a regular market life.
