Kolkata is a busy place, and Sahitya Parishad Street is no exception. Our office, NEPCO Commercial Pvt. Ltd., is located on the second floor of an old building at P-16. It is the kind of place where you can hear the city noise all day long. We have been here for a while now, mostly just handling the daily paperwork and making sure all our commercial supplies get where they are supposed to go. It is not a fancy setup by any means. There are just some desks, old files, and a few chairs scattered around. My uncle always used to say that business is basically about showing up every day, and that is exactly what we do. The stairs up to the second floor are a bit steep, which is tough when it is humid outside, but you get used to it. We mostly deal with trading, though it feels like a lot of our time is spent on the phone or drinking tea while waiting for a delivery to arrive. It gets especially busy in the afternoons when the courier guys start showing up. You really get used to the rhythm of this neighborhood after a few years. People sometimes stop by just to chat for a minute. It is a local operation with a small team who knows how things work around here. We are not trying to change the world, just doing the work that needs doing every single day to keep things moving along.
