N. K. Minerals

Located right on B. T. Road at Sinthi More, N. K. Minerals is right in the thick of things in Kolkata. The traffic outside is constant, and the noise of the buses and trams is something you just learn to ignore after the first week. Our address is 48/2P, and it’s a bit of a tight squeeze for some of the bigger vehicles, but we make it work. We handle minerals and industrial raw materials in a space that’s been in the family for quite some time. It’s not the cleanest job in the city. You end up with dirt under your fingernails and dust on your clothes every single day. We don’t have a fancy showroom. It is mostly just storage and a small corner where we keep the ledgers and the phone. Most of our business happens through word of mouth or people just stopping by because they saw the name from the road. We have a couple of guys who have been with us for ten years, and they know the stock better than I do. We drink a lot of tea to stay focused through the afternoon slump. Working in such a crowded area means we have to be quick with loading so we don't block the road for too long. We don't make big promises, we just try to have the stuff ready when people say they are coming to pick it up at the office.
