N. D. Marble

N. D. Marble is situated at 10C, D. H. Road, right by the Thakurpukur 3A Bus Stand. Being so close to the bus stand means there is always a crowd and plenty of noise. We are in the Karmakar Para area, which has a lot of small shops and houses mixed together. Our shop isn't very large, but we make use of every inch of space for the marble we stock. You can hear the buses pulling in and out all day long while we work. We spend a lot of time organizing the slabs so they don't get chipped. It is a lot of manual labor, shifting the heavy stone by hand or with simple tools. We don't have any corporate office or fancy staff. It is just us here, wearing our work clothes and getting our hands dirty. People stop by on their way from the bus stand to ask about prices or to see a specific type of stone. We show them what we have on the racks at that time. Sometimes we sit outside when it is quiet and watch the traffic go by on D. H. Road. It is a simple life and a simple business. We have been at this location long enough that the neighbors all know us. We just focus on the marble and getting through the daily tasks one slab at a time. It gets tiring but that is just the way it is. The slabs keep moving as long as there is daylight to see them.
