Mondal Shoe House

Budge Budge is where we’ve been for quite some time now. Most days it’s just us here at Mondal Shoe House, surrounded by boxes of all kinds of footwear. It gets a bit crowded inside when the new stock arrives and we have to stack the cartons up near the ceiling. We mostly have the usual stuff people need, like sturdy sandals for the rainy months or some simple slippers for wearing around the house. The fans hum all day but sometimes it still gets a bit stuffy with all that leather and rubber sitting on the shelves. People from around the neighborhood stop by, sometimes just to ask for directions or to see if we can fix a broken strap. It isn’t anything fancy. We have these old stools where customers sit down to try things on and the floor is a bit worn from everyone walking back and forth. Mornings start with sweeping out the dust from the street. It’s a lot of work keeping things organized because shoes have a way of getting mixed up when people are looking through them. We try to keep the kids’ section separate but they always end up running around anyway. Life here is pretty steady, just opening up the shutters and seeing who comes through the door today. It’s just how things are in this part of town, nothing more and nothing less than a local shop doing its thing in Budge Budge.
