Our place is at 41 Chittaranjan Avenue, right in the heart of Bowbazar. It’s an old part of the city, and you can feel it in the walls of the building. We are situated near the Indian Airlines office, which is how most people find us if they are new to the area. Dealing with goods means there is always something being moved around or recorded. The street outside is one of the busiest in the city, with trams and cars and people everywhere. It can get quite loud, but we are used to the sound of the horns by now. Inside, it’s a bit more focused. We have our desks and our storage areas, and it’s all very functional. No fancy decorations or unnecessary stuff here. We just focus on the logistics and the daily grind of running a business in such a crowded area. The monsoons can be a bit tricky with the old drainage on the street, but we’ve seen it all before. Being in Bowbazar means we are close to everything we need. It’s a bit of a maze sometimes with all the small lanes, but number 41 is easy enough to spot. We spend our days making sure things are where they need to be. It’s honest work and we’ve been doing it from this spot for quite some time. The tea guy comes around twice a day, and that’s usually when we take our only real breaks.
