Make Over

Our shop, Make Over, sits at 17D, Tarak Paramanik Road near Beadon Street. It's an old part of Kolkata with narrow lanes and lots of history. The shop itself is tucked away, so you have to look for the sign. We have been cutting hair here for a long time. The space is small, but we make it work with what we have. There are mirrors along one wall and some shelves for our combs and sprays. We get a mix of young guys looking for something new and older men who have been coming here since they were boys. It’s not a quiet place. There is always someone talking about football or the news. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us who know the trade. Sometimes the power goes out, and we have to wait a bit, but that’s just how things are around here. We don't use fancy machines, mostly just scissors and razors. The sink in the back is where we wash up. It’s a bit worn out, but it does the job. People come here because they know us and they know what to expect. We don't try to be something we are not. It’s just a place to get your hair done and talk for a few minutes before moving on with your day. We like the neighborhood and the people who live here.
