Madhumita'S Boutique

Madhumita’S Boutique is located in No. 4D of the Aashiyana Apartment on Garia Station Road. It is a bit different because we are inside a residential building. It gives the place a very homey feel, which I think people like. Garia is a busy area, especially near the station, but once you get inside the apartment, it is much calmer. We have racks of sarees and suits set up in what used to be a regular living space. I spend a lot of my time helping ladies pick out colors that suit them. It is not a big corporate store. It is just me and a helper sometimes. We keep a lot of our stock in cupboards and on simple hangers. There is usually a sewing machine in the corner for minor alterations. People from the nearby flats often drop by just to see if we have anything new. We do not have a big neon sign outside, just a small board. The light comes in through the apartment windows, which makes the fabrics look more natural. Sometimes we sit and have tea with the customers while they decide what they want. It is a very personal way of doing business. The station road is always noisy with rickshaws and people rushing, but we just stay here and work on the embroidery or the tailoring. It is a small, honest shop that fits right into the neighborhood.
