Madhu Marbles

Madhu Marbles is a bit different because we are up on the 5th floor of Plot No.86 on Brb Basu Road. It’s right in the middle of the Rampuria Market area on Canning Street. If you know Kolkata, you know how crowded and loud Canning Street can get. Being on the 5th floor keeps us a little bit away from the street noise, but not entirely. We don't keep big blocks of marble here obviously, because the floor wouldn't hold them. Instead, we have our samples and our office where we handle all the orders. It’s a lot of walking up and down or waiting for the lift, which can be slow in these old market buildings. We spend our days on the phone or meeting with people who come into the market for their building supplies. It’s a tight space, packed with folders and stone samples everywhere you look. We've been in Rampuria Market for years now. We know the other shopkeepers and the tea sellers around here. It’s not the kind of place where you’ll find a glossy brochure. We just have our ledgers and our samples. Sometimes it gets really hot in the summer, and the fans just move the warm air around. But this is where the business happens. We handle the paperwork here and the stone gets delivered from the godown elsewhere. It’s just how things work in this part of town.
