Janapriya Saloon

Janapriya Saloon sits on Raja Manindra Road in the Paikpara neighborhood. It’s a part of North Kolkata that has a lot of history. Our shop is quite small, tucked away among other local stores. We’ve been serving the people around here for a long time. It’s the kind of place where you don't need an appointment; you just show up and wait your turn on the wooden bench. We talk about football or the local politics while we work. The fan on the ceiling hums all day long. Paikpara is a crowded area, so there is always noise from the street, but inside it feels familiar. We keep our tools in order and try to make sure everyone leaves okay with their haircut. There isn't any fancy lighting or expensive decor. Just the basics. That’s how we like it, and our customers seem to prefer it that way too. We know the routines of the neighborhood—when the school lets out and when the offices close. Sometimes the rain gets really heavy on Raja Manindra Road and we have to watch the doorstep. But mostly, it’s just another day of cutting hair and chatting with the neighbors. We aren't trying to change the world, just providing a service to the folks in this part of town. It’s a simple business run by people who live right nearby. We stay open until the last customer leaves and then head home ourselves.
