Janapriya Salon

Our salon, Janapriya Salon, is located at 16/5, Raja Manindro Road. It’s right here in the 700037 zip code area of Kolkata. We share the name with other places, but this is our specific spot on the road. The building is an older one, which gives the shop a bit of character. We’ve got a couple of chairs and some mirrors that have seen better days, but they do the job. We don't spend money on big signs or flashy lights. Most of our work comes from people who live in the apartments nearby. They know us and we know them. It’s a quiet kind of life. We open up the shutters every morning and sweep the front. Raja Manindro Road can be quite busy during the rush hour, with rickshaws and bikes everywhere. We just stay inside and do our work. It’s mostly haircuts and shaves, nothing too complicated. We like the simple approach to things. Sometimes we have a coffee and sit by the door when there are no customers. You get to see a lot of the neighborhood life from here. We’ve seen kids grow up and go to college. It’s a good place to be. We don't have a big team, just a few of us who have been doing this for years.
