Islamia Hospital

Located at 73 CR Avenue, our hospital is right in the middle of the Kolkata hustle. CR Avenue is always a wall of sound with the yellow taxis and the buses honking. The building is older, with high ceilings and those big windows that let in the city light. It has a lot of history to it. You can see it in the stairwells and the way the floors have worn down over the years. We have a lot of beds, and they are almost always full. People come from all over the city and even from outside. The smell of phenyl is pretty strong in the mornings when the cleaning crew finishes their rounds. We have a canteen that makes tea all day long, which helps the staff keep going during those long night shifts. It’s not the quietest place to be, but that is Kolkata for you. The front entrance is always busy with people coming in for visits or appointments. We have some fans that rattle a bit, and the lift can be slow sometimes, so most of us just take the stairs. It’s a working hospital, plain and simple. We deal with a lot of emergencies and routine stuff too. It’s a bit chaotic at times, but we have a rhythm that works for us. We just try to help whoever comes through the door and keep things moving.
