If you go to 67B Netaji Subhas Road, you will find a lot of old buildings and narrow corridors. We are located in Room No 9, which is a small space filled mostly with files, ledger books, and a couple of old desks. Being on Netaji Subhas Road means there is never a quiet moment; the sounds of horns and people shouting on the street below come right through the windows. We have been operating as an agency from this same room for years, and not much has changed inside. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we are usually too busy with the daily paperwork to worry about that. It’s a lot of phone calls and writing things down to make sure orders are processed correctly. We don’t have any fancy software or high-tech gadgets; we mostly rely on our notebooks and the experience we’ve gathered over the decades. The building is one of those places where everyone knows everyone else, and the mail carrier knows exactly where to find us without even looking at the door number. Sometimes the stairs feel a bit steeper than they used to, but it’s a good spot to be in the middle of all the trade. We just keep our heads down and handle the tasks as they come in, one day at a time. It’s a simple setup but it works for the way we do things here in the city.
