Hamlyn Shoe Gallerie

Being inside City Centre 1 means we are part of the whole Salt Lake mall scene. Hamlyn Shoe Gallerie is on the ground floor at Shop No D 006, so we see everyone walking past on their way to the other shops or the food court. It’s a different vibe than a street shop because we have the air conditioning running and the lights are always bright. Still, the back room is a different story. It’s packed with shoe boxes from the floor to the ceiling, and it’s always a bit of a scramble to find the right size when someone is waiting out front. We spend a lot of time wiping down the mirrors and making sure the shoes on display are straight. People come in mostly on the weekends when the Salt Lake City-Bidhan Nagar area gets crowded. They sit on the benches, try on a few pairs, walk around a bit to see if they pinch, and then decide. We have all sorts of shoes, from formal ones that look shiny to the more comfortable ones for walking around the mall. It gets tiring standing on our feet all day, but we get used to it. The staff here is small, so we all end up doing a bit of everything, from helping customers to sweeping the floor at closing time. It’s just a regular job in a busy shopping mall, keeping things moving and helping people find something for their feet.
