Gents Saloon

Gents Saloon is right on Tarak Paramanik Road, which is just off Vivekananda Road. This is old Kolkata, so the streets are narrow and the buildings are packed very close together. It is a very busy neighborhood with a lot of history in every corner. Our shop is small, like many of the other businesses around here. We have got the old-style chairs that have been around for many years. They still work perfectly fine though, so we keep using them. The mirrors are large and cover most of one wall. We spend a lot of time looking into them while we work on the customers. Because we are near Vivekananda Road, there is always a lot of noise from the traffic and the trams. You get used to the sound after a while. Most of the people who come in are regulars who have been living in this area for generations. We know their fathers and their sons by name. It is that kind of neighborhood. We do not have any fancy air conditioning, just a couple of ceiling fans that spin all day long to keep the air moving. In the summer, it gets quite hot, but we just keep going. We keep a stack of newspapers for people to read while they wait. Sometimes the conversation gets quite loud when everyone starts talking about politics or the latest cricket match. We are just a local saloon.
