Curves A Designer Boutique Shop is over in Rajdanga Nabapally, specifically in the Uttarayan Apartments. We’re pretty close to the Geetanjali Stadium, so you can often hear the noise when there’s a match or an event going on. The shop is at number 23. It’s a bit of a climb or a walk depending on where you park, but people find us. We do a lot of design work here, which mostly means the back room is a complete disaster of fabric scraps, paper patterns, and half-empty spools of thread. We try to keep the front part looking presentable for when people walk in, but the smell of the hot iron and the sound of the sewing machine usually give away what’s happening in the back. It’s not a big corporate showroom; it’s a working space. Sometimes we have tea spilled on a sketch or we can't find the right zipper for a week. We deal with all sorts of people, some who know exactly what they want and others who just want us to fix something they bought elsewhere. The apartment building vibe makes it feel more private than a shop on a main road. We spend a lot of time pinned over mannequins, trying to get a hem to sit right. It’s tiring work and our eyes hurt by the end of the day, but the shop stays open and we keep at it because we have to.
