Chiffon And Lawn Store is right by the C.R. Avenue Central Metro Station. Being so close to the station means there are always people rushing past our door. Kolkata is a humid place, and you can really feel it here in the middle of the city. We have stacks of chiffon and lawn fabrics piled high on the shelves. Sometimes it’s hard to find a specific color, but we usually know where everything is. The shop is small and the lighting is a bit dim, but it’s a cozy place. We have a few stools for customers to sit on while they look at the cloth. We spend most of our time measuring lengths and folding fabric back up. It’s a lot of repetitive work, but it’s steady. We see all kinds of people coming off the metro, from students to office workers. We don't do much marketing; the location does most of the work for us. The sounds of the trams and the traffic are always in the background. We have a small back room where we keep the extra stock and a kettle for tea. It’s a very basic operation. We just focus on selling the fabric that people need for their clothes. It’s a simple life and we have been at this spot for quite some time now. We usually sweep the sidewalk in front of the shop every morning.
