Our office is at No. 1 Keshtopur on the V. I. P Road, which means there is a lot of traffic passing by all day long. It is a small room with a few chairs and a table where we keep the property files and maps of the local area. I spend most of my morning answering the phone and writing down names in a ledger. People are always looking for a place to stay or a bit of land to buy around here. I walk around the neighborhood a lot, checking which houses are empty or which shops are closing down. The keys are kept in a wooden box behind my chair. Sometimes I have to go out in the heat to show a flat to someone who might not even like it. It’s a lot of walking and talking about plumbing or the size of the rooms. The office gets a bit dusty because of the big road outside, so I have to wipe the table every few hours. We don’t have a big sign, just the name on the door. I drink a lot of tea while waiting for clients to show up. Dealing with the paperwork for the municipality takes up most of my afternoons. It is plain work, just matching people with the space they need. I’ve lived around Keshtopur for a long time, so I know which streets flood when it rains.
