Bharat Sevashram Sangha Hospital

You will find Bharat Sevashram Sangha Hospital right on Diamond Harbour Road, down near the I.I.M. Joka area. We are close to the Pailan post office in that part of Kolkata people call Jokan. It’s a very busy stretch of road, with trucks and buses constantly moving past our gates. Despite the noise from the traffic outside, we’ve managed to make the hospital a place where things get done. We have been part of this neighborhood for a long time. People around here know us well, and we know them. The building is large enough to handle a lot of people, and we usually have a full house. Our staff works in shifts, and you can always find someone drinking tea near the entrance during the shift change. We don't have any of those sleek, modern lobbies you see in the city center; we have sturdy benches and tiled walls that are easy to keep clean. The proximity to the I.I.M. campus means we get a lot of students and staff coming by sometimes, but mostly it’s local families from Pailan and the surrounding areas. It gets quite humid here, so we keep the fans going at full speed most of the year. We aren't here to win any awards for architecture. We are just here to provide a place for people to come when they have health troubles. It’s hard work, but it’s our daily life and we just get on with it.
