B. Jhunjhunwala & Co.

Our office is at 12, India Exchange Place. It’s an old building with high ceilings and those big windows that let in a lot of light but also a bit of the city noise. B. Jhunjhunwala & Co. has been operating from this spot for a long time. You can tell by the way the floorboards creak when you walk across the room. We have several old filing cabinets that are completely stuffed with records from years ago. We probably should clear them out, but nobody ever gets around to it. The atmosphere is usually quite serious. People are busy with their calculators and checking figures. We have a small corner where we keep the kettle and some biscuits for when we take a break. It’s a very traditional way of working. Most of our clients prefer to come here in person rather than just calling. We spend a lot of time on the phone though, especially in the mornings. The lift in this building is one of those old manual ones with the metal gates, and it breaks down sometimes. When that happens, we have to use the stairs, which is quite a workout. We don’t really worry about making the place look modern. It works for us as it is. We know our business well and we just keep at it day after day. It’s about being consistent and showing up every morning at nine. The work is steady and that is all we really want.
