Asiatic Leather Handicraft

Our shop, Asiatic Leather Handicraft, is located at 57A/1A, Purna Das Road. This is a nice part of town with lots of trees and people walking around. The building we are in is quite old and has a lot of character. We’ve got a modest space here. It’s filled with all sorts of things we’ve made. There are bags and small items tucked into every corner. It’s not a huge place, so we have to be smart with how we use the shelves. Sometimes the front door sticks a little when it’s humid, so you have to give it a good push. We spend most of our time in the back where the actual work happens. You can hear the tapping of hammers and the sound of scissors. Purna Das Road gets quite busy in the evenings with the cafe crowd, so we see a lot of people passing by. We have a small window where we put a few items to show what we have. It’s a peaceful enough spot to spend the day. We try to keep things tidy, but when we’re in the middle of a big project, there are bits of thread and leather everywhere. We don’t mind. It’s a workshop, after all. We’ve been at this address for a long time. It feels like home to us. We just keep doing our thing, day in and day out. It’s a lot of work but we enjoy the routine.
