You can find Artex Furnishing tucked away behind Jyoti Cinema on Nilmoni Halder Lane. Dharmatala is always buzzing, so it’s pretty loud outside our doors most of the time. We’ve been at number 7 for quite a few years now. The building is one of those older ones that has a lot of history but also has its share of leaks when it rains hard. We spend our days surrounded by fabrics and all sorts of supplies. It smells like old wood and dust in here, which I’ve grown to like over time. We aren't a big chain store with matching uniforms. Most of us just wear what’s comfortable for moving heavy rolls of cloth around. Sometimes we have disagreements about where things should go, but we usually sort it out over lunch. The stairs are narrow, so moving furniture up and down is always a bit of a struggle. We don’t have a website that’s updated every day or a fancy social media presence. We just open the shop, wait for folks to come in, and help them find what they need. It’s a simple way of doing things, and it works for us. Some customers have been coming to us since we first opened, which is nice. We just take it one day at a time and do the work.
