Anjana Footwear

I usually open up Anjana Footwear pretty early in the morning when the sun is just starting to hit Nungi Station Road. Being near the New Land More, there is always a bit of noise from the traffic and people heading toward the station. This shop in Bata Nagar isn't anything fancy, just a room filled with boxes of shoes and slippers. I’ve lived around here most of my life so I know most of the people who walk past. Sometimes they just stop in to say hello or ask about the weather while they look at the sandals on the shelves. The address says Nungi Station Road twice on the papers because that’s just how the post identifies this stretch of road. We have stuff for kids going to school and for the older folks who need something soft for their feet. It gets a bit crowded in here when the afternoon train arrives and people are walking home through Bata Nagar. I spend a lot of time rearranging the racks and making sure everything is where it should be. The floor is concrete and sometimes the dust from the road comes in, so I’m always sweeping up. It’s just a regular local business, nothing like those big malls you see in the city. We keep it simple and try to have what people in the neighborhood are looking for when their old shoes finally wear out and they need a new pair to get around.
