We are located at number 9, Old Chinabazar Street, which is right in the heart of the old business district near the Calcutta GPO. If you’ve ever been here, you know how narrow the lanes are and how crowded it gets with handcarts and people carrying big bundles on their heads. Our office is tucked away in one of those old buildings that has a lot of character but not much space. We do exports, which means we are always dealing with schedules and customs stuff. It isn’t glamorous work at all. Most days I am just sitting at my desk, which is squeezed between a stack of boxes and a filing cabinet that doesn’t always open right. We have tea twice a day and talk about the market. The air is thick with the smell of old paper and the street food from outside. It’s a noisy place to work, but it has a certain rhythm to it that I like. We don't bother with fancy mission statements or anything. We just try to make sure our clients get what they ordered. Sometimes the rain makes the street almost impossible to walk through, but we still make it in. It’s a very local way of operating, where everyone knows everyone else in the building. We’ve been here for years and don’t plan on moving anytime soon.
