Al Ayla Hotel

If you know Kolkata, you know Park Street is basically the center of everything. Al Ayla Hotel is situated at 23 Marquis Plaza, up on the first floor. Marquis Street is always packed with people and cars, so it is never really quiet around here. Being on the first floor means we hear a lot of the honking and shouting from the street below, but guests seem to get used to it after a bit. We spend most of our time checking people in and out or making sure the rooms are somewhat tidy. It is an old building, so there is always something that needs fixing, like a leaky tap or a bulb that went out. Our staff is just a few guys who have been here for years. We don't have those big fancy lobbies like the five-star places down the road. It’s a simple setup for people who just need a place to sleep while they are in the city for work or visiting family. We see a lot of different people coming through these doors every day. Sometimes the elevator in the plaza acts up, which makes things a bit difficult, but we manage. Running a hotel in this part of town is mostly about managing the chaos of the city and making sure there are clean sheets on the beds. It’s a bit of a grind, but we like being right where the action is.
