Asian Emu Farms

Our place, Asian Emu Farms, is situated over on Shiva Ji Road. Most folks around this part of town know the Gunj Golai area, so we usually just tell them to look for us near there. It is not your typical farm that you see everywhere else. We deal with emus, which are very interesting birds to say the least. They have their own personalities and can be a bit of a handful at times. We have had to learn a lot about them by just doing the work every day. It was not something we studied in a book; it was more about being out there on the dirt and seeing what they need. The weather plays a big part in how our day goes. If it is raining, everything gets muddy and slow. On clear days, we are out there checking the pens and making sure the feed is right. It is a lot of physical work, and our boots are rarely clean. We don’t have a big fancy website or a marketing team. It is just us and the birds. People stop by sometimes just to look at them, which is fine, though we are usually too busy to chat for very long. The shed where we keep all the supplies is a bit old, but it keeps the rain out well enough. We have had some tough years and some good ones, but that is just how farming is. We are just trying to do a decent job.
