V V K Exports is over at number 3, Ramakrishnapuram North. It’s a straightforward location for a straightforward business. We don't have any big neon signs or a lobby with a receptionist sitting there. When you walk in, you’re usually walking right into the middle of where the work is happening. We deal with exports, so there are always boxes being taped up or stacks of pallets waiting by the door. It’s a lot of physical labor, and we’re often covered in dust or bits of packing tape by the end of the shift. The neighborhood is mostly residential with some other small businesses scattered around, so we try not to make too much noise early in the morning. We’ve been at this for several years now, and we’ve gotten into a good rhythm. One person handles the manifests, another checks the goods, and someone else deals with the transport guys who come and go. It’s not always smooth; sometimes a truck is late or a shipment gets held up, and then everyone is a bit stressed. But most days we just put our heads down and get the tasks done. We don’t really think of ourselves as some big international company. We’re just a local outfit in Ramakrishnapuram trying to do our job right and keep the business moving along. We try to be out of here by six so we can get home to our families and have some rest.
