Akshara Fabrique

Our place, Akshara Fabrique, is located at 34 Nehru Nagar in Vengamedu. If you know this part of town, you know it is all about textiles. There are fabrics everywhere you look. We have our own spot here where we handle various types of cloth. It can get quite warm in the afternoons, but we have the fans going. There are always rolls of fabric leaning against the walls. Some are bright and some are plain. We spend a lot of time checking the quality and making sure there aren't any snags or tears. It is a very hands-on job. You get dust from the cotton on your clothes by the end of the shift. We don't have a fancy website or a big PR department. We just have the building and the fabric. People come in to see what we have and we show them. Sometimes we have a chat about how the industry is doing or the price of yarn. It’s a simple life. We like the feel of the material and the sound of the machines when they are running nearby. It's just what we do. We've been at it for a while and we plan to stay for a lot longer. The street outside is always busy with carts and bikes carrying more cloth, but inside we just focus on what is right in front of us. It keeps us occupied and out of trouble for the most part. We enjoy being here in Nehru Nagar.
