Alex Textile

Our shop is at 99 Main Road, Kamarajapuram North. It’s a good spot because there’s always something happening on the Main Road. You can hear the buses and the bikes all day long. Alex Textile is a pretty straightforward place. We have shelves lining the walls from floor to ceiling, all packed with different types of cloth. There’s a long wooden counter where we roll out the fabric to show people. It’s got some scratches and marks from years of use, but it’s sturdy. We don't have fancy air conditioning, just a couple of ceiling fans that hum away. The floor is made of old tiles that have faded over time. We start the day by sweeping the front step and getting the lights on. It’s mostly just us here, handling the customers and keeping an eye on the stock. We have a small ledger where we write down the sales by hand. It feels more personal that way. Sometimes the rain comes down so hard on the metal roof that we can’t hear each other talk. We just wait it out. There’s a small back room for storing the extra rolls and a tiny sink for washing up. It’s a simple life here in Kamarajapuram North. We aren't trying to be anything we’re not. We just open the doors, do our work, and talk to the people who walk in. Most days go by pretty fast when the shop is full and everyone is busy.
