Sterling Tex

25 Gayathri Nagar is where we do everything. It’s right off Erode Road, so there is always the sound of traffic in the background. Trucks go by all day long, carrying stuff to different parts of the state. Inside, Sterling Tex is mostly just a lot of fabric and some desks. We’ve got the office set up so we can see the loading area. Usually, the floor is covered in bits of thread or dust from the rolls we’re moving around. It’s not a showroom, so don’t expect anything shiny. We just have these big industrial shelves piled high with whatever came in that week. It gets hot in the afternoons, so we keep the fans going full blast. Most of the guys have been working here for years. We know the local drivers and the guys at the tea stall around the corner. We spend the mornings checking the quality of the weave and making sure the colors match what was asked for. If a batch is wrong, it is a whole headache, so we try to catch it early. Sometimes we are here late because a shipment got delayed on the road. It is just how the textile business works around here. We don’t do much fancy talking. We just make sure the cloth gets where it needs to go. It is a regular job for us and we just try to get through the day's list.
