Bharani Park Matriculation Higher Secondary School

Out here in Vennamalai, things are a bit quieter than the middle of Karur town. The school is on Salem Bypass Road, so you hear the trucks going by sometimes. We have the gardens at Bharani Park where there's a bit of green, which is nice when it gets dusty. It’s a big place. We have students from all over the area coming in every morning. The staff rooms are usually full of old papers and tea cups. We have been here for a while now. Most days are just about getting through the syllabus and making sure the kids don't get into too much trouble. It’s a lot of work looking after a secondary school. You see the seniors stressing over their board exams every year. We try to give them space to study. The classrooms are basic, with wooden desks and blackboards. We don’t have fancy air conditioning everywhere. It’s just a regular matriculation school. We see the kids growing up, some of them come back years later to visit. It’s strange seeing them as adults. We just keep the gates open and the bells ringing. Life moves pretty fast around here. Sometimes we have events in the yard and everyone gets together. It’s just our local school. Nothing more to it than that. We just do our jobs and go home like everyone else. There is always something that needs fixing, but we manage.
