Asia Hand Fabrics

We are over at No. 17/2 on 4th Cross, Kamban Street. It’s in the Sengunthar Nagar part of Vengamedu. Asia Hand Fabrics is a small operation, mostly focused on the traditional stuff people in this area have been making for years. The street can be a bit narrow, so getting big deliveries in and out is always a bit of a puzzle. Our workspace is filled with the sounds of work and the smell of different dyes. It’s not a polished showroom. You’ll see threads on the floor and stacks of fabric waiting to be sorted. We spend a lot of time checking the quality of the hand-woven pieces. If a thread is loose, we’re the ones who find it. It’s a lot of sitting and looking closely at things. We’ve lived and worked in Vengamedu for a long time, so we know most of our neighbors. The shop is a bit old-fashioned, and we still use a lot of manual methods for keeping track of our inventory. Sometimes we lose a pen or a notebook in the piles of cloth, which can be frustrating. But that's just the way it goes here. We aren't a big corporation; we're just a local business trying to keep the fabric trade going in our little corner of Kamban Street. It gets hot in the afternoons, but we keep the fans going and keep working.
