Anboli Fabrics

Down at 11 Periyar Nagar in Vengamedu, that’s where you’ll find Anboli Fabrics. It’s a busy little spot, especially when the new rolls of cloth arrive. We spend a lot of time measuring and cutting things. The floors are usually covered in small bits of thread and scrap pieces of fabric. It’s a bit messy, but that’s how a fabric place should look, I think. We have some heavy machines that make quite a bit of noise during the afternoon. My hands are always a bit rough from handling the material all day. We’ve been here in Vengamedu for a good while now, so we know most of the people who walk past our door. Sometimes we just sit outside on the stools when the sun starts to go down. It’s not a big corporate office with glass walls or anything like that. Just a solid place with a lot of cloth. We deal with all kinds of fabrics, and some are harder to manage than others. You get used to the smell of new textiles after a few years. My cousin helps me out with the orders when things get really hectic. We don’t have a website or anything fancy; we just do our work and go home. People come in, they look at the samples, and we talk. It’s a straightforward way to make a living. The 11 Periyar Nagar building is simple, but it serves us well for all the fabric we store.
