Tirvani Rice Industry

If you drive about three kilometers out on Sadiq Road past the Machaki milestone, you will find our place. We are right near Tirvani Rice, which sometimes confuses people who are looking for us for the first time, but we have been at this spot long enough that most locals know the way. The industry is basically a collection of large sheds and a yard that gets pretty muddy when the monsoon hits. We don't have a polished front desk or anyone in a suit waiting to greet you. Usually, you will just find someone covered in grain dust or a driver waiting for his paperwork. The work we do is pretty straightforward; we take the paddy and we process it. It is a repetitive cycle of unloading, drying, and milling that goes on day after day. The machinery is loud and requires a lot of looking after to keep it from rattling itself apart. We have a small crew of guys who have been with us for years, and we all know our roles without having to talk about it much. It isn't the cleanest job in the world, and by the end of the shift, everyone is ready to head home and wash the grit off their skin. We just keep our heads down and focus on the grain coming through the gate. It is a practical life, centered around the milestones and the rhythm of the harvest.
