About Sri Ganesh Rice Mill – Food & Beverages in Karnal
Started on Tarouri Rd years ago. The mill is right there in Kudak Jageer where the air always feels a bit like dust and grain. Most days it’s just the sound of the hulling machines going from early morning until the sun goes down. We have the big yard where the tractors come in. Sometimes the mud gets thick if it rains too much but we manage to keep things moving. My father used to sit in the small office near the front gate and now I spend most of my time there checking the weights and talking to the drivers. It isn't a fancy place. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint but the machinery is solid and that's what matters for the rice. We see a lot of the same faces every season. People from around the village stop by just to say hello or ask about the prices. In the winter the fog stays low over the fields around the mill and it gets quite cold in the sheds. We keep a small stove going for tea. The sacks of rice pile up high during the peak months and it gets crowded inside. It is a lot of hard work and long hours when the harvest is ready. You just get used to the noise of the belt and the smell of the raw paddy. It is just how life goes here on the road.
