Kamla Rice Mill

Kamla Rice Mill is situated right on the Main Road in Village Marnda. It’s a convenient spot for the local farmers because they don't have to travel far off the main path to reach us. The mill is an old-fashioned place with thick brick walls that stay somewhat cool in the heat. We have been here for a long time, watching the village of Marnda grow up around the road. The main sound here is the hum of the electric motors and the shuffling of feet on the concrete floors. We don't use any high-tech gadgets to run the place. Everything is done by eye and by hand, from checking the quality of the husks to stitching the bags shut. The gate stays open from early morning until late at night during the peak season. We drink a lot of tea and talk about the local news while waiting for the next truck to arrive. The warehouse is often overflowing with yellow bags, and the smell of raw grain is everywhere. We don't have a mission statement or any corporate goals. We just want to make sure the mill stays running so we can earn our living. It’s a basic operation with no frills. You might find some spilled grain near the loading docks and some grease on the door handles, but that’s just the reality of a working rice mill.
