Hindustan Foods is right in the middle of the action at 174-B, New Anaj Mandi. Being on GT Road means there is a constant stream of trucks and noise from the traffic, which you just get used to after a week or two. The Anaj Mandi is always full of activity, especially in the early hours of the morning when the bulk of the trading happens. We deal with food products, so there’s always a lot of heavy lifting and moving bags around the warehouse. It’s a dusty environment and it gets incredibly hot during the summer months. We don't have a polished showroom; our space is mostly dedicated to storage and getting things ready for transport. The floor is concrete and the lights are basic. People who come to see us are usually other traders or truck drivers, so there isn’t much need for anything fancy. We drink our tea standing up half the time because there’s always something that needs to be moved or checked. It’s a practical business built on being in the right place at the right time. We don't spend much time on the computer unless we absolutely have to. Most of the work is done with our hands and by talking to people face to face. It’s a grit-and-sweat kind of place where the job gets done regardless of how tired we are. We just stay focused on the load.
