Golden Rice & General Mills

Being located on G.T. Road means there is never really any quiet. The trucks are always rumbling past our gates. Golden Rice & General Mills has been sitting here for years, watching the traffic change. We do the milling day in and day out. It’s not something we overthink. You wake up, you open the gates, and you start the engines. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit there waiting, maybe fix a few bags while the lights are off. It's mostly about the grain coming in from the nearby farms. We see a lot of different people. Some are regulars who have been bringing their stuff here since I was a kid. The air inside the mill is thick and warm. It has that specific smell of dry rice that stays with you. We don't spend money on fancy signs or anything. Most people find us because they know the road well. It’s hard work, especially in the summer heat when the metal roofs get hot. We just keep the fans going and drink plenty of water. It isn't a glamorous job, but it’s what we know. By the time we lock up at night, we’re tired but the work is done. It’s just the way life goes here on the main road, and we just keep moving along with it.
